Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Assistant Commandant Selection Process

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Assistant Commandant selection process is a rigorous multi-stage examination designed to identify and recruit highly qualified individuals. Here’s a breakdown of the five stages:

Stage I: Coast Guard Common Admission Test (CGCAT)

  • Computer-based online test: 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
  • Subjects: English, Reasoning & Numerical Ability, General Science & Mathematical Aptitude, and General Knowledge
  • Marking scheme: +4 for correct answers, -1 for incorrect answers
  • Qualifying nature: Candidates must clear this stage to proceed.

Stage II: Preliminary Selection Board (PSB)

  • Computerized Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT): Objective-type test in English
  • Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT): Candidates discuss pictures in English, Hindi, or both
  • Qualifying nature: Candidates must pass this stage to proceed.

Stage III: Final Selection Board (FSB)

  • Psychological Test: Assesses personality traits and suitability for leadership roles
  • Group Task: Evaluates teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Interview: Personal interview to assess overall personality, aptitude, and suitability for the role
  • Combined score: Marks from Stage I and Stage III are combined to determine the final merit list.

Stage IV: Medical Examination

  • Special Medical Examination: Conducted at Base Hospital, New Delhi
  • Appeal Medicals: Candidates declared unfit can appeal the decision.
  • Review Medical Board (RMB): A final review board for those who appeal.

Stage V: Induction

  • Naval Orientation Course (NOC): Selected candidates undergo training at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala.
